LET’S GET PRACTICAL

In theory, theory and practice are the same.
In practice, they are not.

Our USE CASE – the Blue suit – paves the way towards the Cradle to Cradle® supply chain and the certification process.

Karen Rauschenbach and Yvonne Vermeulen, founders of the Swiss label the Blue suit and initiators of CIRCULAR CLOTHING, know first-hand about the challenges of producing sustainable fashion in top quality and small quantities in Europe.

“Even though we focused on organic materials, durable products and ethical working conditions from the beginning, we wanted to break out of the ‘take, make, waste’ cycle found in the linear economy,” says Karen Rauschenbach. With that goal in mind, they decided to rethink circular clothing by using the high standard of Cradle to Cradle® design.

What does this mean in practice on the supplier side? “On the one hand, we try to convince existing suppliers to convert their production to the Cradle to Cradle® standard, and on the other hand, we approach new suppliers who already offer Cradle to Cradle Certified® materials or finishing technologies,” says Yvonne Vermeulen.

With the Blue suit as a use case, the initiators have established a strong starting point to spread the Cradle to Cradle Certified® standard and to motivate other textile labels to join their cause. In doing so, they are striving to make CIRCULAR CLOTHING a powerful network for enhancing social and ecological responsibility.

WHAT THE BLUE SUIT DISCOVERED CAN BE RELEVANT FOR YOU:

1

Closing the loop: what does that mean for a textile label?

2

What is circular design?

3

What is Cradle to Cradle®? Social standards are important to us – does this standard take them into account?

4

Where can we find Cradle to Cradle Certified® fabrics?

5

Which dye house complies with Cradle to Cradle Certified® standards?

6

Are there any Cradle to Cradle Certified® accessories on the market?

By developing and producing their first Cradle to Cradle® collection, the Blue Suit gains valuable insights and practical experience that is relevant to other Swiss textile labels which also believe in a zero-waste industry. The Cradle to Cradle® supply chain used for the collection will be accessible to associated members of CIRCULAR CLOTHING.

Curated and certified fabrics, accessories and colouring options will be made available in a form of a toolbox, with sample materials, a guideline, workshops and lectures. The USE CASE also pilots the shared Cradle to Cradle Certified® certification, which will be offered through CIRCULAR CLOTHING.
